INTRO

Tear yourself away from the sofa and celebrate the summer with a challenging and varied range of activities with the Air Cadets. All you need is plenty of spirit, a good dose of energy and the willingness to give anything a go…..even if the first words you utter when you finish are ‘never again’ you’ll look back and realise that you’ve had a fantastic ‘Summer of Adventure 06’.

CONTENT

The programme will kick off with an induction over five days at the Sqn HQ. We will complete any administration that needs to be done, take part in leadership & teamwork exercises, drill & shooting. This will lead to a 4 day camp at an Army Training Centre. Activities will include obstacle course, navigation exercise, camping, shooting, radio communication, teamwork skills and first aid. We will also run training for the Inness Sword Competition.

After enjoying a day off we will then spend two days, at the Sqn HQ, preparing for our adventure training camp in Scotland. Air Experience Flying will take place on Fri 11 Aug and we will then depart for Scotland on Sun 13 Aug. We will be staying in an Army Adventure Training centre in the Cairngorms, the largest and wildest National Park in the UK. We will be canoeing, map reading and mountain walking, gorge walking, rock climbing, abseiling, Bronze and Silver DofE expeditions all under the expert guidance of ex-RAF Mountain Leaders.

After completing a gruelling week in Scotland you’ll be ready for a 2 day rest. This will be followed by the last phase of training with continuation (5 days) training at Sqn HQ preparing for your Presentation and Parade on Friday 25th August. We will also be gliding during this week. Invites will go to your parents/carers and various dignitaries from the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea.

The entire summer course can be accredited towards Bronze/ Silver Duke of Edinburgh Scheme. You’ll also get a Provisional VHF/UHF Radio Operators Certificate, a Young Lifesaver Plus first aid qualification and an Attendance and Achievement Certificate. All qualifications will be recorded on your Air Cadet National Record of Achievement.

The training comes as a complete package and therefore priority for the camps, flying and gliding will be given to cdts that can commit to the whole programme. Additionally ALL CDTS are to have their subs paid up to and including September to be eligible for this training. Whilst we have attracted some funding for this training it is necessary to charge for some elements of the training to cover our costs.

If you, or your parents, have any queries about the ‘Summer of Adventure 06’ please contact the Officer Commanding.

A detailed programme of events and Parent Consent Forms are attached to this letter. Your parents will need to give their consent to you taking part in the Summer Programme. Get involved…. It’s got to be more satisfying than slouching on the sofa watching live feed from the Big Brother house.
