46F (Kensington) Squadron

Air Training Corps

IT’S UP TO ALL OF US…..

A good team has a high success rate and, therefore, more often than not achieves what it sets out to do.

A good team has clear and challenging objectives. These are objectives which everyone in the team contributes to, shares an understanding of and is committed to achieving.

It is my job as the leader to set out our objectives so that everyone in our team is aware of them. This is the purpose of this letter to you; to set out what we aim to achieve in the last quarter of this year.

RECRUITS

The first step in our academic training is the First Class exam. This marks the difference between recruit and cadet and leads into the BTEC training at Leading Cadet and onwards

All recruits regardless of their date of entry will sit the First Class Exam on Mon 6 Nov 06. This will be followed by a Drill Test on Fri 10 Nov. Results will be given out on Mon 13 Nov 06. You will either pass or fail on that day. If you pass you will be presented with your First Class badge on Fri 17 Nov 06.

A new recruit induction will start on Mon 6 Nov 06.

CADET EXAMS

The Cadet exams are on Mon 6 Nov 06. There are three papers at Leading and two papers for each of the next two levels, Senior & Staff. All papers comprise of 25 multiple choice questions. Cadets may not sit all the papers for each level in one sitting. In this way cadets can spread the learning load over a period of time, rather than trying to cram study in order to pass. Cadets will gain from having more time to understand the subjects and gain valuable experience at each level of classification. Cadets should expect to have about 9 months between each classification in order to complete the 25 hours of project based work needed at each level.

All cadets taking the exams should have Air Cadet Publications (ACPs) to revise. Alternatively cadets can download ACPs in their subjects from the Air Cadet website:

http://www.aircadets.org.uk/. In addition we have a number of ACP to issue to cdts. These will be issued along with a deposit of £5-00. The deposit will be returned when the ACP is returned on the exam date.

EXERCISE LAST CHANCE

We will be running a weekend camp over the 24 – 25 Nov 06. This is your last chance to attend a camp in 2006, hence the name. It will be a basic adventure training camp with obstacle course, shooting and night exercise amongst other things. The cost of the camp is £15-00.

LONDON WING CROSS COUNTRY COMPETITION Sun 26 Nov 06

This competition is looking at being a battle between us and 241 Sqn. It will be a 3km run over a country park in Chingford, 241’s home ground. Our intention is to train towards and win this competition. We need to organise training sessions, get the right people into the running teams and attend the competition with full teams in each age group. Not too much to ask of ‘Londons Best Sports Squadron’.

CHRISTMAS PARTY

This event is the will mark the end of a successful year for 2006. It will take the form of a formal dinner with speeches. Three courses served to the NCOs and cdts by the staff, followed by a party in the main hall. Volunteers will be needed to run this event.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH SCHEME

We intend to complete 6 Bronze Awards by the end of this year and five Silver Awards. The cdts who took part in the Silver Expedition during the summer will need to have their report in by Mon 16 Oct 06, if they want it to count towards their award.

OTHER EVENTS

In addition to the events listed above we have on offer various courses for Junior and Senior NCOs.

ATTENDANCE

A lot of time has gone into putting this programme together. It’s your Squadron, it’s up to you to make the best of the opportunities available and get on in your ‘Air Cadet Career’.

The Sqn requires and expects all cadets and NCOs to parade regularly. If we are to provide effective and sustained training you need to attend. The MINIMUM level of attendance is 5 parades per month for cadets and 6 parades for NCOs. One parade can be a weekend duty ie. flying, shooting etc. If your attendance falls below the minimum your Flight Commander will call you in for an interview. Subsequent non-attendance will result in OC’s interview and may lead to dismissal.

If for any reason you cannot attend you are to submit an Absence Advice Form (AAF) prior to taking time off. This notice and Training Programmes will be posted on the web site: www.46f.co.uk.

We will also be gliding during this week. Invites will go to your parents/carers and various dignitaries from the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea.
